Daisy lost her fight for her life. A sock was removed from her intestines that had been there for 16 months. There
was horrific damage to her organs,. Please watch your dogs and puppies, and if the vomit on and off please get an x ray done.
Simple surgery at the right time would have saved this sweet life.

Life is full of surprises! When we took Lucy in we had no Idea what was going to happen. We took her to
the vet for a check up, the vet diagnosed"false pregnancy" and we set up a spay appt fur Lucy. Her foster Dad was out of town
for a few days, so Lucy was boarded. We got an early morning call that Lucy had delivered 5 pups, all alone. The puppies were
cleaned up and nursing when the people came in. Check out Lucy's pups live on the link on the left green panel. Four of the
pups are looking for homes, and we are looking for donations to care for this little family.

state law enforcement officials for running what a former customer described as a "house of horrors".
Update on the above story: The "breeder" in the Daily News story lost her License to sell dogs!

Louie is a really smart, charming 8 yr old. If he was a guy, I suspect he would wear a bow Tie! We are still
working on what might have happened to him, but he is as thin a rail. I spoke to his owner who told me that he had "no health
issues". Louie wants nothing more than to love and be loved!
UPDATE on Louie. He is still very thin but better. Louie needs an enzyme check to see if he has something
called EPI, a pancreatic problem. Louie is enjoying himself at Shady Paws.

Here is the Suffolk County SPCA Newsletter featuring Mattie's Rescue! This is where sad skinny Mattie spent her days
when she was not crated in an empty house. Often she was out in the pouring rain. Check out her story on Mattie's page.

LIZA was one of 200 + dogs that were rescued from a puppy mill , where she was crammed in a crate
and used to produce puppies. Sometime, somewhere she was someones family pet, as she is comfortable with a collar, loves the
couch, and is housebroken. Liza is missing parts of her lower jowels, her upper right eyelid, and her upper canines. It seems
that she was used as a bait dog, someone likely smashed her upper teeth out, resulting in the injuries on both sides of her
face. Someone probably realized that more money could be made from her puppies, than by letting her get killed by dogs. She
is nearly blind in the eye with the missing lid.She has an old hematoma on her ear, a mammory tumor, and needs to be spayed.
With all the terrible things that have happened to her, Liza greets the world with a wiggle and a kiss. We have rarely seen
such a sweet and loving dog.
Liza will be having reconstructive surgery on her eyelid by Dr, Sapienza at LI Veterinary Specialists, after
Dr. Haagenson, Nassau-Suffolk Animal Hosp. spays her, and removes the tumor.
We will be posting updates on Liza.
May 21 Liza wakes up with a spring in her step!
We got her some very nice canned food and she has been cleaning her bowl, and having less difficulty eating.
She is starting to show her personality more. Yesterday LIBR Rescue Mac, a very small Bully who was adopted by his foster
Mom Tricia, was lying on his back. Liza must have thought he was a hungry puppy, so she went over to him and offered him "milk" she
is so sweet.

Lana update! Our girl is enjoying herself...feeling better. She
has been enjoying country life. She had a sonogram, there are no masses. She does have a heart murmer and needs a cardiac
workup. Her fur is starting to come back, she had a massive yeast infection, she has gained weight, her ribs are no longer
visible. We are still checking her out, but her foster Mom Andrea Dayton tells us that she is acting more like a dog and having
fun. All these tests cost money, even though our vets are very generous with discounts, it still adds up. If
you can donate towards Lana's cardiac workup she would really appreciate it, she has a tremendous will to live and lots of
spunk. UPDATE! Lana had her cardiac work
up. She has a leaky aortic valve, and it seems that she has lupus, an auto immune disease. She is responding to meds, but
she will probably stay at Shady Paws, as we will not be able to spay her. Lana is looking for a sponsor.
